35mm Contax SLR (Old) / Contarex / Zeiss Ikon |
| The Contarex was created when several German lens and camera manufacturers came together, in part to fight economic woes of the pre-war German economy. Like most things designed by a committee, many of their designs were overly-complex and poorly-executed. Others were darlings of their time. The first Contarex, colloquially known as the "Bullseye," is a 35mm SLR camera demoed in 1958. Seemingly well-made and extremely heavy, it was an extremely complex design making repairs extremely difficult, and Japanese manufacturers such as Nikon with their Nikon F outfoxed the Contarex. |
