In 1960 Pignons, the corporate parent of Alpa, and Alpa introduced its third generation, first modern and most successful to date SLR camera body. The body has a built in non coupled selenium sensor (no battery needed) exposure meter, fabric horizontal travel focal plane shutter with shutter speeds from 1 to 1/1000th second. The body, which came in a variety of collectible color schemes, was introduced standard in black and chrome. New for ALPA, there was also a horizontal viewing eyepiece - until then there had either been a waist-level viewfinder (ALPA Reflex) or a vertical 45 degree viewing angle eyepiece.
