Used Canon Camera Bodies (35mm SLR, Manual Focus) |
Canon introduced their commodity SLRs using the "FL" mount. This included bodies such as the Canon FX (1964), FP (also 1964), the Pellix and Pellix QL cameras in (1965 and 1966) respectively, the FT, and the TL. The FD system superseded FL, but FD system cameras could use FL lenses in stop-down mode. The FD cameras included the F-1 and FTb (1971), FTbn (1973), EF (1973), TLb (1974), TX (1975), F-1n (1976), AE-1 (1976), AT-1 (1977), A-1 (1978), AV-1 (1979), New F-1 (1981), AE-1 Program (1981), AL-1 (1982), and the T50, T60, T70, T80, T90 (1983-1990).
The FD camera system allowed for automatic aperture modes, and some new coupling for full-aperture metering. This enabled auto-exposure. The Canon F-1, when equipped with a special finder first supported this. The Canon EF from 1973 had automatic exposure built-in, just like the very popular Canon A-series cameras introduced in 1976. The FD mount had no evolutionary path to auto-focus, which is the reason it is no longer in use. Unlike Nikon they did not adapt their mount with electronic contacts, which angered many in the photographic community. This, however, allowed Canon to integrate a motor and gave them an edge in focusing speed for more than a decade.
The last FD system camera body was the Canon T60. |
