Used 35mm Canon FL & FD Lenses (SLR, Manual Focus) |
Canon's FL lenses superseded their "R" lenses and heralded the introduction of such iconic manual focus cameras as the AE-1 and AE-1 Program. They were introduced in 1964 with the Canon FX. FL lenses included a series of normals in 50mm f1.4 and f1.8 and f3.5, 55mm and 58mm in f1.2. They also produced a few zooms: 55-135mm, 85-300mm, and 100-200mm. Their telephotos ranged from 85mm all the way to super-telephoto mirror lenses for specialized purposes.
The FL mount was in turn superseded in 1971 by the Canon FD lens mount. FL lenses can also be used on FD-mount cameras, but with limited functionality in stop-down mode. The mount was very popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, and a great variety lenses were produced. Unfortunately, the FD mount had no evolutionary path to auto-focus, which is the reason it is no longer in use. Unlike Nikon they did not adapt their mount with electronic contacts, which angered many in the photographic community. This, however, allowed Canon to integrate a motor and gave them an edge in focusing speed for more than a decade in the EOS system. Many of these lenses were legendary, and a few of the FD lenses perform just as well as their newer brethren.
The last FD system camera body was the Canon T60. |
