This is a highly desirable virtually pristine example of this historically significant NIKKOR portrait LEITZ/LEICA Screw Mount (LTM) in gorgeous collectible condition. It actually fills a focal length gap in the Leica offerings of that era, offering a very desirable portrait focal length not otherwise available from Leitz. AND, it actually has better optical characteristics than contemporaneous Leitz (Sunnicron) offerings. It is VERSION ONE with the original issue stud mounted lens hood. The black paint has the original factory fresh virgin sheen. The aperture blades, as shown, display almost no use wear. The chrome also displays a factory virgin fresh and has no evidence of handling or wear or bright lining except on the base of the tripod mount and lens/camera mount where there is some very sparse and light bright lining or brassing wear as shown in the illustrative pictures. Perfect optics, perfect mechanics and very near perfect cosmetics.

$1,575.00 |
UNIQUE COLLECTIBLE AND EXTREMELY RARE NOS (NEW OLD STOCK) example of this first version of this historically extremely significant lens. This lens looks to never have even been mounted on a camera body. IT IS A COMPLETE ORIGINAL SET: ORIGINAL BLUE VELVET BOX. ORIGINAL BAYONET MOUNT HOOD; ORIGINAL FRONT AND REAR CAPS; ALL ITEMS ARE PRISTINE to the limit of how they emerged from the factory many decades ago. What defects to the finish there are appear to be artifacts of original manufacturing events.
Even the leather case (which has to have dried out over the years) appears to be very close to pristine. No cards or papers. Unlike the lens hardware, the blue velvet box is worse for the many years that have passed. It is intact but it is very faded |

Extremely collectible very early version of this lens in less than the most collectible condition. Near perfect glass (extremely tiny mark on front glass and very slight cleaning marks), perfect mechanics, stud mount for hood, colon serial number RARE (which I believe denotes duplicate use serial number), and infinity denoted by "INF." Exterior shows use and wear as shown in the pictures. Black paint shows wear and scuffs. Chrome shows staining and wear as well. Optics are essentially perfect in operation. Mechanics are tight and satisfying, betraying no discernible wear at all. |

COLLECTIBLE, POSITIVELY GORGEOUS !! This is the finest example of this lens that we have ever encountered. As we received it, it has no dust or haze and clearly does not need a CLA. The mount as with the remainder of the lens appears pristine and looks as though this lens has never been mounted on a camera body. The overall paint has a sheen to it that is characteristic of how a recently produced item emerges from the factory. The chrome is largely pristine though there are a very few marks that could have been produced during its manufacture or in very light handling since. This COLLECTIBLE lens is supplied with and "unbranded" NIKON period correct lens hood (which according to Robert Rotoloni is authentically correct for this species of lens) and which is substantially pristine as well. It is also supplied with an extremely clean rear "T" cap and the correct original front cap as well as the original brown Nippon Kogaku lens case. |

Completely CLA'd. No defects of any consequence. Perfect performing optics. Perfect mechanics. Last and most highly evolved version of this classic RF lens that helped launch the original Nikon legend. Very nice condition except for a really brutal very localized damage to the filter ring area of the external body as shown in the pictures. Has been carefully straighten out and accepts filters properly. As shown in the pictures, especially the last two, this lens is aesthetically challenged, for which the price has been amply compensated, but it is positively a magnificent performer. |

Introduced December 1953 at $152.50, the 10.5cm f2.5 was one of NK's more historically important lenses. Approximately 9000 were produced starting with SN812000 and a second batch of approximately 13,000 onsetted with SN912000. All 22000 were substantially identical in a black and chrome motif (black painted body, chrome grip/mounting ring and chrome filter ring) with three significant variations.
Variations 1: Early SN812XXX up the forward portion of the chrome lens barrel has studs for a bayonet mount lens shade. (colon at the end of the serial number sub variation)
Variation 1(NikonBM)
Variation 1(LeicaSM)
Variation 1(ContaxBM)
Variations 2: In the same serial number block continuing after the studded barrel lenses change to a more conventional clip on hood and the hood studs vanish.
Variation 2(NikonBM)
Variation 2(LeicaSM)
Variation 2(ContaxBM)
Variations 3: Onset serial number 912501 to 926158

Variation 3(ContaxBM)
This lens was such a remarkably excellent formulation that it not only was one of the very best of that era, guaranteeing Nikon's impressively growing reputation in that very competitive emerging world market, that it survived the demise of Nikon's rangefinder line in 1962 and persisted in Nikon's reflex camera arsenal for decades until being replaced by the Micro 105mm f2.8 after about three more decades.
The actual lens formulation is largely a scaled up variation of the 8.5cm f2.0 (shown below for comparison) with its edges cut off to yield an f2.5 formulation. It works extraordinarily well. While the original 8.5 f2.0 is a very fine lens, the 10.5cm f2.5 has turned out to be an historically most extraordinary one.
