A classic Tessar 4/3 design execution: a front positive singlet element followed by a negative second element followed finally by a cemented positive doublet.
The 5cm f2.8 Tessar was introduced in 1932 shortly after the f3.5 version accompanied the original Contax I's introduction earlier that year. The earliest production of the f2.8 gained a deserved reputation for being less sharp than the original f3.5 version. Halfway though the production life of the Contax I the optical formulation was redone and improved in 1934 to the point where it is more comparable in performance to the original f3.5 version.
The motifs of the lens mounts were executed to coordinate with the camera bodies. The earliest production were nickel plated with black markings. Later production went from nickel plating to chrome.

Perfectly Excellent operating condition but cosmetics leave something to be desired. Usable but has mechanical, optical and cosmetic issues as indicated in individual descriptions Issues as indicated in individual descriptions Very significant conditions as indicated in individual descriptions.
