Minolta MC & MD Lenses for Manual Focus SLRs |
Minolta introduced a series of lenses for their manual focus SLR series. The various lenses released were christened "MC" and, later, "MD." MC stands for "meter coupled." Earlier lenses with the same mount do exist, and use the same basic mount. When the XD series of bodies were introduced, Minolta had to release and updated series of lenses termed "MD." They added a coupling to indicate the minimum aperture. This was required to implement shutter priority exposure modes. Though MC lenses will work on XD and later cameras, they will not function in shutter priority modes.
Minolta released a great number of MC and MD lenses. Some of the best known were their VFC lenses, which have no modern couterparts today, as well as many of their wide angle lenses, known for their sharpness and early application of multicoating technology. |
