NOS (New Old Stock). Late serial number last evolutionary step of this species with smooth titanium-aluminum alloy shutter. In original box with matching serial number and original packing but no papers. Acquired from a Nikon NAS dealer who identified this body as a "counter DEMO" that has never had a roll of film through it. Its paint still has the original factory fresh sheen to it though there are a very few marks to (a few scratches on the base and sparse marks elsewhere) for which the price has been generously discounted. The body has a very crisp feel to it characteristic of Brand New unused stock. |

Virtually immaculate example of this very late production FM2N. No internal wear at all. Perfectly gorgeous example of this very favorite version of Nikon's totally mechanical camera body. As shown in the illustrative pictures nearly perfect aesthetics barely marred only by a few faint shiny marks on the base and faint evidence of handling anywhere else. GORGEOUS ! |

Extremely lightly used and GORGEOUS FM2N body. Completely CLA'd with brand new elastomer mirror bumper cushion and light seals. Shutter speeds and meter "dead on" accurate. Positively wonderful camera body in absolutely superb condition.
Rare/unusual combination of features and qualities. This body has the sought after "HONEYCOMB" stressed titanium shutter blades in combination with the 1/250th second X-SYNC shutter mechanism. The "HONEYCOMB" blades are thought to have a life in excess of 100,000 actuations, normally associated only with profesional camera bodies, while the 1/250th second X-SYNC mechanism is associated with a superior and more convenient shutter speed dial layout."

March 1982 Nikon introduced a significantly improvement on the FM body. Its vertically traveling shutter traversed the opening in under 1/250 second (Nikon, early on specified it and set up the shutter speed dial to reflect X-sync at 1/200 but this conservative approach was later discarded with no apparent resign other that a reconfiguring of the originally obtusely laid out shutter speed dial.) The early production shutter blades had a honeycomb pattern stressed titanium fabrication method which was later eliminated in favor of a very rigid slightly lighter aluminum smooth blade design. The GaAs sensors of the FM were replace by more sensitive and much faster SPD (Silicon PhotoDiodes) extending the ASA range to 6400.
The first iteration of the FM2 (non FM2N version) had a design misstep.
This is not only an (unnecessary) unfortunate positioning since it turns off the cameras metering circuitry and its position is an awkward position for optimumal ease of use.
Though the display will blink when set to 1/250 with an electronic flash on the earlier models, exposures are executed flawlessly at this shutter speed.
The body has no obvious meter on/off switch function but the circuit is activated by partially depressing the shutter release button after moving the Film advance lever to its "stand off" release position. The circuitry remains active for 30 seconds thereafter. This conserves battery life if the lever is left offset. In use, this can be a very frequent event.
