The 13.5cm/135mm f3.5
Along with the 10.5cm f2.5, the 13.5cm f3.5 was one of only two rangefinder lenses that were directly adopted for normal everyday use on the original "F". Introduced February 1959 along with the "F" it was the first of the two.
Version 1: Onset serial number 720101; nine blade aperture; tick marks aperture settings on aperture ring, tick marks distance demarcations on focus ring, milled (fine ridge) hard to grip narrow aperture ring; "PAT. PEND." and slant M LMIJ in the back side of the central portion of the barrel.
Version 2: Onset serial number 742546, Tick Marks on aperture ring eliminated. "R" for infrared focus shift eliminated in favor of a red dot.
Version 3: Onset serial number approximately 735XXX; "PAT. PEND." dropped and aperture mechanism goes nine blades to six blades.
Version 4: Focal length of lens changes to specification in mm.
Version 5: Smooth lens mount goes to 5 bolt heads showing. From sn approximately 7XXXXX the slant side "M" in "LMIJ changes to vertical side "M"
Version 6: Minimum aperture now f32 and ridged aperture ring changes to scalloped variety. May 1969 Serial numbers ranged 865101 to 904080
Version 7: Onset serial number approximately 960XXX, "Nippon" Kogaku Japan changes to "Nikon"
Version 8: November 1973 to June 1975 Serial numbers 1111111 to 141500 lens got NIC treatment. Forward barrel changed from brushed chrome to painted black and "DOT C" appeared after "Q" in the lens designation.
Version 9: February 1976 onset serial number 158101; Scalloped focus ring changed to "diamond" RIFR
Version 10:
AI Substantial mechanical and optical rework of this lens formulation. Onset serial number 193501 accompanied by a face lift to "NEW LOOK" Nikon lenses of the era.
Version 11:
AIS Onset serial number 290001; April 1982 (production terminated March 1983) Substantially identical to version 10 but precise camming needed for mechanical aperture control added.
