The 35mm F1.4 Series
CRC (Close Range Correction) is achieved by movement of the rearmost (rightmost) set of elements, 5 elements in 4 groups, moving as a single entity with respect to the remainder of the lens structure.
March 1971 Nikon introduced this almost bombastic triumph in lens design. Using CRC (one of Nikon's very earliest "floating element" lens designs), at F1.4 this lens formulation is amazingly sharp even at full aperture and maintains its central sharpness over its full focusing range from 1 ft to infinity. Between F4 and F5.6 the lens achieves impressive sharpness, again over its entire range.
Version One: Onset SN 3500001 NKJ on front rim, Long metal scalloped focus grip ring, All black with wide chrome metal grip ring,
Version Two: Onset SN 3600000 NKJ on front rim eliminated in favor of "Nikon" trademark.

Version Four: Onset SN 385001
AI version Cosmetics very similar to version three and identical lens formulation but minimum F Stop goes to F16 (a de facto admission of the limitations of this design's at smaller apertures)
