Introduced in 1977, the 85mm F2.0 was intended to replace the 1/3 stop faster F1.8. It never actually did and the F1.8 was later resurrected. Though by scientific measure it is at least as sharp as the 1.8, it lacks its high contrast (as well as that of the 1.4). The designers must have imagined that since its intended use was for portraits that lower contrast would be a positive attribute, that concept never caught on. The lens itself is actually terrific but never achieved the status of the 1.8 or even the 1.4 for reputation in the marketplace.

Version 2: August 1981 "AIS" version onset serial number 270001.

New in box with warranty papers as it came from the dealer Indistinguishable from new but no box or no papers or both Very close to new condition with only subtle signs of use or handling. Extremely nice condition but does show some handling and use but no hard use whatsoever. Excellent condition but shows some wear and use. Perfectly Excellent operating condition but cosmetics leave something to be desired.
