8.5cm f2.0 Nikkor P.C Rangefinder

The reader is referred to the 2007 edition of Rotoloni's "The Complete Nikon Rangefinder System" pages 288-305 for an accurate and scholarly treatment of the subject matter which is only covered in the most cursory manner here.
The 8.5cm (85mm) f2.0 Nikkor P was introduced during the spring of 1949 for the original Nikon I and for Leica SM.
Versions 1:
Versions 1a NikonBM/LeicaSM mounts: Serial numbers 8011 through 801295 (total production run of under 300 for this series); MIOJ; characteristic of early production there was much variation of minor characteristics from lens to lens. F2.0-16
Versions 1b NikonBM/LeicaSM mounts: (1949/50) Serial numbers 9031 through 904089 (total production run(s) of 1200 to 1400) MIOJ; some of the run employed parallel mount (one in which a set polarizer filter maintains its orientation).
Versions 1c NikonBM/LeicaSM mounts: (1951) Onset serial number approximately 286400 for and additional 1300 not all of which are designated MIOJ. Rotoloni speculates that only about 400 to 500 are true and designated MIOJ.
Versions 2: non MIOJ designation
Versions 2a NikonBM/LeicaSM mounts: (1951) Onset serial number 286462 ; Tokyo ; no MIOJ; f16(minimum aperture) but no clickstops
Versions 2b NikonBM/LeicaSM mounts: Onset serial number 288450; MIJ; f16(minimum aperture) but no clickstops
Versions 2c NikonBM/LeicaSM mounts: Onset serial number 289545; MIJ; f32(minimum aperture) with clickstops
Versions 3 Onset serial number 289551
Chrome/Black NikonBM/ContaxBM/LeicaSM
Versions 4 Onset serial number 396301
Versions 3 and 4 differ principally by serial number ranges and according to Rotoloni a little over 20,000 were produced in all three mounts: 8488 NikonBM; 7706 LeicaSM and 3883 ContaxBM
