Pentax Screw Mount (M42) Camera Bodies |
The M42 mount was developed by Carl Zeiss Jena in 1938 for Japan's Praktica, which previously used a smaller screw mount. Many manufacturers added innovations to the mount, including Pentax. These included the Pentax Spotmatic F, as well as the ES and ESII.
These models have open-aperture metering if coupled with the Takumar SMC lenses. The Pentax M42 mount cameras were phased out in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Pentax moved to the Pentax K bayonet mount from 1975 onwards. In fact, the Pentax Spotmatic chassis was adapted for the Pentax KX, KM and K1000 models with Pentax-K bayonet mounts. |
